My daughter is 19 months old and she’s already a pro at going peepee in her potty but she won’t go poopie! We thought under the age of 2 was too young to potty train but she’s been using her potty since she was 16 months old because I have really been working with her and praising her! She is still in diapers but she comes to me going “PsssPsss!” making a pee sound when she needs her potty, so off we go and she does it everytime. As funny as it sounds, I’ve even made “poopie” sounds and even taken her to potty with me- but she still doesn’t get it. Any advice or pointers?

To some ppl it may sound kind of harsh…i used to get scolded when i was little ( i was told ) and that made me go poop in the potty….Then again I was potty trained by 10 months.

This is gross, I know, but have you tried showing her poopie in the potty? Or when she goes in her diaper say “Oh, this goes in the potty” and emptying the diaper into her potty? Then tell her when she has to go she can use the potty, because poopie likes to be in the potty, not the diaper. She might not know what you want her to do.

Bravo on getting her to pee in her potty at such a young age! As for the pooping…I’ve been told by other mothers that they just give their little ones time and do it when they’re ready. My daughter is 11 months old, so I’m not there yet. I’m curious as to what others will say, though.

I like the Hershey Kiss idea above….it actually sounds like a cute idea! lol

try to get a schedule of around the time that she normally has a BM and then when you get that down just take her to the bathroom around that time everyday. it is hard on the younger ones to go poopie in the potty. it is a unusual feeling and act for then because they are not used to going out of their diaper.

I would say every once in a while watch her, does she have any specific mannerisms that take place while she goes “poopie” if so watch for these and take her to the potty. It may not work the first time but try it and when she does go poopie make the noises so she’ll catch on and offer her a little treat such as a single tootsie roll or an ice pop every time she goes. Best of luck to you!

Keep doing what you have been doing. And tell her she needs to go potty both ways instead of just one way. And tell her that makes her a real big girl when she does that. And praise her when she accomplished this task. Need to tell her she needs to poop in the toilet and piss in the toilet.

    get the book “everybody poops”
read it a few dozen times to her and get her excited about filling in the chart.

she may not have the muscle control for that yet.
take your time and don’t push.

Just a sidenote — I think you should teach her to pee standing!

If you don’t already pee standing, here’s a quick tutorial:

Practice in the shower a little. Once you’re confident and can hit the drain, demonstrate for your daughter. Soon she’ll be able to pee anywhere.
